
BURLINGTON – Bernard “John” Benway, 85, of Hyde Park, died on December 13, 2024 at UVM Medical Center with his family by his side.
John was born in Hardwick on August 28, 1939, to Glen and Mildred (Rollins) Benway. John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1963 and served in the Seabees. John worked a variety of different jobs throughout his life, the last being with the State of Vermont.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Jean, Janice and Alan.
John is survived by Mike and Mary Benway of Hardwick, Jim and Michelle Trottier of Wheelock, his special friend and companion Beverly Metcalf of Hyde Park, as well as his grandchildren; Michelle (Ron) Hall, Danielle Silver, Courtney (Glenn) Benway, Codi (Clint) Benway, Zachary Trottier, Bryanna (Randie) Trottier. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a prayer service to begin at 2:30 p.m., at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, 97 Church Street, Hardwick.
