BURLINGTON – Derek Renaud of East Hardwick has been invited to meet with Vermont’s Congressional delegation at a roundtable discussion and receive nomination certificates to become a member of the class of 2029 at the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy, December 28.
Renaud is among twenty young Vermonters invited to the nomination ceremony to be considered for membership in the Class of 2029 at the United States Service Academies by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Peter Welch and Rep. Becca Balint.
Gabriel Gardner of nearby Barton will be nominated for the Naval Academy by Sen. Sanders, Sen. Welch and Rep. Balint.
The five military academies are the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. Applicants to U.S. Service Academies must receive a nomination as part of the application requirements. While there are other political nomination sources that applicants may qualify for, a congressional nomination is the most common. The names of this year’s nominees, selected by Sanders, Welch and Balint through a competitive application process, are sent to the Academies for final decisions.
Attendees are asked to follow Vermont Department of Health guidance, monitor symptoms and encouraged to take a rapid Covid-19 test prior to the event.
