
BARRE TOWN – Sherman C. “Sherm” Chaffee, 77, of Maplecrest Road, passed away on Friday, December 20, at his home.
Born on October 31, 1947, in Barton, he was the son of Lee and Irma (Butler) Chaffee. He attended local elementary schools in Albany, and graduated from Craftsbury Academy.
On September 2, 1966, he married Beverly Brown and they made their home in Orleans, where Sherm worked for the Orleans Manufacturing Company. They then moved to Irasburg, where he ran a farm and started their family. He lived in Craftsbury for several years before moving to Barre Town where he and his family have resided for the past 46 years.
Sherm was a self-employed carpenter, known for his master skills in finished carpentry, retiring in 2017. Sherm enjoyed spending time at his land in Bradford, where he built a sugar shack and hunting camp. At his camp on Lake Champlain, he loved boating, fishing and sharing a cold Budweiser with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Chaffee, his son Michael Chaffee (Kerry Mulconnery) and daughter Teresa Beaudin, all of Barre Town; his grandchildren, Lucas Beaudin, Kaitlyn Chaffee and Tyler Chaffee, and his great-grandson Hudson Heath as well as his brother Thomas Chaffee (Rocky) of Barton.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Rodney and Clair and his sister Carolyn. He also loved and lost his best buddy, his dog Jake, last year.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
