MARSHFIELD – Richford clamped down defensively on the Lady Trojans last week, stalling their recent momentum after winning three of their last four games.

The Twinfield-Cabot girls basketball team looked rusty after a full week off, falling convincingly to a speedy Richford team at home over the weekend 47-27. Star senior Kyrielle Deuso showed why she’s a 1,000-point career scorer, pouring in a game-high 20 points for the Lady Rockets.
Gracie Sylvester added 17 points for Richford, who survived a defensive battle in the first half to take a 18-9 edge into the break.
Kendall Fowler got the Twinfield-Cabot offense going with 16 points, but the rest of the offense went cold. The Lady Trojans had started to show a balanced scoring attack in recent wins against Williamstown, Danville and Northfield, but have sputtered in their last two contests.
Deuso is finishing up a high school career at Richford that is hard to match anywhere in the state. She led her soccer team to a state championship last fall as a No. 11 seed, knocking out two of the top three seeds during their Cinderella run. Deuso was a Vermont All-State selection for a second consecutive season and will represent her state this summer as a Twin State selection in the Lions Cup match against New Hampshire’s best. She’s has two Vermont Dream Dozen basketball selections to go along with her career scoring exploits and led the Lady Rockets to a Final Four appearance at the Barre Auditorium last March. This spring her Richford softball team will defend their Division IV state title as she pulls double duty as one of the top decathlon athletes in the state.

Their second straight loss to Division III competition drops the Lady Trojans to 3-4 and down to No. 6 in the current Division IV standings.
West Rutland (8-0) continues to pace the division in their quest for a fourth straight state title, with Arlington, Long Trail, Williamstown and Mount St. Joseph Academy rounding out the top five.
Second-year head coach Jack Whalen will look to get his ball club back on track this week as they welcome Northfield to town. They will be back on the road next week for a match-up against Blue Mountain.
