MARSHFIELD – The Twinfield-Cabot girls basketball team snapped a two-game skid with their largest offensive output of the season last week, blitzing Northfield to even their record at 4-4.
Kendall Fowler led a balanced Lady Trojan attack with a game-high 22 points, powering her team to a dominating 73-21 home win over Northfield last Thursday. Chloe North wasn’t far behind her teammate, pouring in a career high 19 as Twinfield-Cabot surpassed their scoring total combined in tough losses to Peoples Academy and Richford last week. Jorja Washburn continued her fine play with 15 points in the win as every player found the score sheet for second year head coach Jack Whalen.
“It was important for us to get back in the win column and it was great to get a big win at home against Northfield! I know that is how our offense can play, we just need to work on doing so with more consistency,” said Whalen.
Twinfield-Cabot swept the season series against the Lady Marauders, outscoring them 133-56 in their two wins.
Northfield continues to search for their first win of the season, falling to 0-11. Whalen’s squad moved up to No. 6 in the current Division IV standings with three-time defending champs West Rutland pacing the chasers with a 9-1 record. Arlington, Long Trail, Williamstown and Mount St. Joseph’s Academy (MSJ) round out the top five.
The Lady Trojans are currently holding off Poultney and Twin Valley for a battle to host a home playoff game. A signature win against fourth ranked Williamstown at the Barre Auditorium earlier this month has Whalen holding steadfast that his veteran ball club can continue to improve and play their best basketball by season’s end. A challenging Mountain League schedule in the next 10 days, coupled with looming matchups against Williamstown and MSJ to end the season will provide plenty of opportunities for his club to be battle tested come playoff time.
“We need to come with the same energy we approached Northfield with when we travel to Blue Mountain. Hazen will be a big test for us later this week and I just want my girls to show me they have zero quit against a team like that. We need to show that we can come out and match their energy. It’s a long season and I’m proud of how we’ve played to this point,” said Whalen.
Twinfield-Cabot traveled to Blue Mountain on Tuesday and will return home to take on defending Division III champ Hazen Thursday. The Lady Trojans will be back on the road next Tuesday to take on a tough Richford squad.
