Let’s Call it What it is

Share article

To the editor:
For the past few weeks, since Jan. 20, to be exact, “DOGE” is the word that captures the attention of the printed and broadcast press, and the public. But how best to declare the meaning and pronunciation of this amalgamation of letters? (Lexicographers, please take note.)
It certainly is not an official government agency nor department nor commission, nor whatever, as Congress never created it nor granted it authority. But it is, apparently, in Washington, D.C., the seat of our government of, by and for the people, or that town used to be.
As for the sound the letters make when pushed out together, as with any acronym that tries to squeeze or scramble or leave evidence a group of words has a new sound and a new meaning, I suggest, (now, step carefully!), for the sake of clear enunciation, let’s add a few letters. (The more the merrier!) Let’s now call DOGE what it is: DOGEE DOO.

    Yes, and most everything else that has come through the city of Washington, District of Columbia, since the war of aggression, and the walk out of the continental congress, is without the weal of the people, and pretty much commercial effluenence;

    What’s in a name? Why did the President rename the United States Digital Service (USDS), the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE?
    USDS was formed in 2014, to beef up federal government technology. This January, President Trump dubbed it DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. Its new job is to cut government costs.
    On February 26, President Trump signed a new executive order, expanding the authority of the DOGE task force. DOGE aims to shrink the federal workforce, drastically slash government spending and cancel all programs that disagree with Trump’s policies. DOGE’s actions have sowed chaos and confusion among federal workers.
    The new order firms up the power and reach of senior Trump adviser, Elon Musk. The tech olgarch spearheads DOGE’s efforts. Musk is the public face of DOGE, but the White House said the administrator, who will oversee most of the work, is Amy Gleason.
    Does the acronym DOGE have hidden meaning? The Doge of Venice was highest official in the Republic of Venice (697 a.d. to 1797 a.d.). Doge means “leader.” The Doge of Venice was both the head of state and leader of the Venetian oligarchy, which was in power from 1297 until 1797.
