MARSHFIELD – Art and Author Afternoon with Artist Cynthia Ross and Poet Marjorie Ryerson will be held Saturday, May 4, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Jaquith Public Library. The art show opening at 4 p.m. will feature Cynthia Ross, an artist, writer and teacher. She has lived in Vermont since the mid-1970s, coming to know it first through painting out in nature. The works in this exhibition, painted in and around Plainfield, Marshfield, and Calais in the 1970’s, reflect her developing relationship with the landscape, encounters with the natural world and appreciation of Vermont life.
At 5 p.m., there will be a poetry reading by Marjorie Ryerson, an award-winning author, journalist, photographer, teacher and poet. She will read poems from her 2023 book, “The Views from Mount Hunger,” as well as some poems from her next poetry book, “Watershed Wanderings.” Her 2003 art photography book, “Water Music,” won national and international recognition and awards, and she ran the Water Music Project which grew out of that book.
