Classes and workshops were being offered over the course of the weekend in two morning and two afternoon sessions daily. A mix of sessions drew a wide range of area residents. People in a Saturday morning tai chi class and an afternoon color wheel class commented on how enjoyable it was to have young and old joining in side-by-side.

Participants at The Civic Standard’s Hardwick State event painted color wheels, then cut them up to make designs, with no two alike, as they experimented with chromatography and diffraction to break pigments and light into their component colors.

Helen Sher, coordinating logistics for the events, said over 200 class registrations had been received before classes began on Saturday. Asked about the difficulty of handling the 60 sessions that volunteers had signed up to teach without any arm twisting, and far exceeding the organization’s expectations, she said, “I love my spreadsheets.” Seeing it come together, she said it was thrilling and exciting.

Justin Lander, Head of Design for the Civic Standard, said he’d had no idea what to expect, and “the feeling in town is what I’d hoped it would be.”

A Honky Tonk band with dancing at the American Legion Saturday evening was well-attended.

The Civic Standard’s Rose Friedman said one of her goals is seeing that people are crossing paths. “I wish it was like this every weekend,” she said.
