LAMOILLE – The Hazen Union girls summer hoop team notched another win on Monday night as their varsity and junior varsity programs continue to enjoy success in the Lamoille Summer League.

Hazen downed Lamoille on Monday night for their latest win this summer, as head coach Randy Lumsden and his Lady Cat program look to build off their third straight twenty-win season under the former Wildcat champion. Lumsden has his squad in the highly competitive Lamoille Summer League for a second straight season as they rumble with the likes of St. Johnsbury Academy (SJA), North Country, BFA St. Albans and Enosburg. Both SJA and North Country represented Division I and II in their respective championship games this past March. Lumsden has led Hazen to three straight trips to the Barre Auditorium that included capturing the 2024 Division III state title. His quest to continue testing his talented young team with stiffer competition will get turned up a notch this winter, as the Lady Cats tackle their inaugural season in the rugged Capital League. His star-studded coaching staff made up of record setting 1,000-point scorers Sue Rivard (North Country) and Dorothy Hill (Cabot) will take a hit this coming season as Hill steps away from the program. Rivard remains an assistant and Alison Blaney will continue to run the JV program. Hill’s impact on developing Hazen’s swath of young talent isn’t lost on Rivard.
“Dorothy’s impact on the team and program was instrumental and will be greatly missed. As she steps away to focus on watching her son compete in his final two years of varsity basketball, she promises to stay involved with us from the sidelines,” said Rivard.
Lumsden is also involved at the youth level, offering skill sessions at the Cat Den every Tuesday for grades 6-8, as well as additional sessions for high schoolers.
“The girls are determined to put in the work three nights a week in the gym and bring it every Monday night in summer league to be ready for the Capital next season,” said Rivard.
The Lady Cats added Lamoille to their latest list of impressive wins this summer after toppling SJA and Enosburg earlier this month. Hazen is scheduled to square off against division I BFA-St. Albans next Monday and will attend the VTSU-Lyndon basketball camp throughout this week.

I have to say I watched this team play last night, and while they are great players, their sportsmanship and behavior left a lot to be desired. Cheap and dirty fouls, constant swearing at opponents on the court, all while winning by a wide margin, put them in a pretty bad light.
