HYDE PARK – A shorthanded Hazen Union girls summer hoop team easily handled BFA-St. Albans on Monday to stay undefeated in the Lamoille Summer League.
The Lady Cats have been lethal out of their division this summer, posting wins over Enosburg, St. Johnsbury Academy, and Lamoille. With several starters out on Monday, including head coach Randy Lumsden, the Lady Cats rolled to a 58-15 victory. They’ll continue to test themselves next week against a North Country team that has advanced to the Division II state title game three consecutive years, winning it all in 2023.
“We had four girls from varsity and two more from JV. Everyone played really well, and it was a great defensive team effort,” said assistant coach Sue Rivard.
Coach Lumsden finished up a weekend in Virginia with returning Lady Cat starters Kelsie Rivard, Mya Lumsden, Taylor Thompson, and Autumn Dailey, who are competing for Lone Wolf AAU. They will continue down the coast to Orlando, FL for a tournament this coming weekend.
“The growth of the girls throughout the spring has been amazing. They’re maturing, their focus has been very apparent, and we are excited for the upcoming season,” said Lumsden.
