GREENSBORO – The Caspian Music series begins August 3, with a concert that features works by Hayden, Schumann and Causson.
The Caspian Festival Orchestra will continue to be a full orchestra rather than a snaller chamber orchestra, so the season will end with Mendelssohn’s “ltalian Smphony” and Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto in D major,” August 24.
All concerts will be presented at the Highland Center for the Arts.
A chamber music concert, Sunday, Aug. 3, will feature Hayden’s “String Quartet in C Major,” (the “Emperor”) performed by the Callisto Quartet; Schumann’s “Canonic Etudes for Oboe and Cello” and Chausson’s “Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet” featuring violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and pianist Philip Edwards Fisher.
The Sunday, Aug. 10 concert is themed “Timeless Conversations,” and consists of combinations of instruments playing Beethoven’s “String Trio Op. 9,” Benjamin Britten’s “Phantasy Quartet for Oboe, Violin, Viola and Cello” and Dvorak’s “Sextet in A Major” as well as shorter pieces featuring Robert Boyd on the guitar.
Paul McShee will conduct the Festival Orchestra Sunday, Aug. 24, as they play “Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major,” featuring Solomiya Ivakhiv, as well as Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 4,” (the “Italian”) Soprano Andrea Nalywajko will perform Handel’s “O HadI Jubal ‘s Lyre” from his oratorio “Joshua,” as well as an oratorio from the Eighteenth Century Russian composer Dmytro Bortnianskyi’s opera “Alcide.”
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
