Chargers Wrap up Regular Season

COLCHESTER – The Craftbury Academy (CA) bowling team fell to White River Valley in the first round of Bakers over the weekend, wrapping up their regular season at Sparetime. [Editor’s note: Baker format, is a team bowling format where each player bowls one frame at a time until the game is complete. It’s a popular format in high school and collegiate bowling because it emphasizes team effort over individual performance.]

Sophomore Kosmos Glestos continued to be a bright spot for head coach Ashley Gravel and her young team, leading the way with a team-high 133 on Saturday. Tucker Holcomb and Arwen Alexander were close behind, firing a 113 apiece.

“We made more gains as a team in Colchester, and it was all in all a good weekend of bowling. White River is a joy to compete against, with both teams encouraging and supporting each other throughout the match. I continue to see growth and dedication in all my bowlers, which is exciting since we hope to return all nine of them back to the program next winter,” said Gravel.

Gravel is in her second year leading the program after a year under Connor Bean who started the program and became the Chargers’ athletic director three plus years ago. Bean departed for the A.D. position at Bellows Falls and is also the Vermont Principals Association Director of High School Bowling, continuing to grow the game around the state. Gravel loves the young enthusiasm injected into her program this winter with great participation numbers and would like to see it take the next step soon with proper support and funding around the commitment from the student athletes.

“We are hoping to get some funding or donations to equip the kids with the proper gear. When we walk into tournaments, we are the exception as far as not having custom balls and shoes to help make us more consistent. I love this young group, and they go above and beyond on their own time to practice and get better. We need to step up and show some commitment back to them and continue to grow the program,” said Gravel.

League Championships will kick off this Saturday at Missisquoi Lanes in Lowell.
