ORFORD, NH – Rivendell Academy (RA) ended the Danville baseball team’s season last week in the first round of the Division IV playoffs.
Josh Gould blasted a two-run homer and Zach Parker added three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the eighth seeded Raptors to a 7-4 home win over Danville last Tuesday. Luke Avery also had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Raptors and Will Knowles struck out 10 Bears on the day to earn the win. Danville finishes the season at 4-12 and will lose seniors Thomas Edgar, Denver Lindstrom, Dusty Loura-Bumps, John Morgan, and Hunter Horne to graduation. Twinfield’s Meles Gouge and Thomas Gouge were on the Bear’s roster for the second consecutive season.
The Raptors fell to top-seeded Blue Mountain 14-0 in their quarterfinal matchup on Friday to finish their season at 7-9. The Bucks squared off against Stratton Mountain on Tuesday in the Division IV Final Four.
Lady Eagles Breeze Past Peoples Academy
BRISTOL – Second seeded Mount Abraham blanked the Peoples Academy (PA) softball team last week in the first round of the Division II playoffs.
Payton Vincent twirled a five-inning no-hitter, striking out seven to power Mount Abe into the quarterfinals with a dominant 29-0 home win over the Lady Wolves last Tuesday. Vincent also wreaked havoc at the plate with a triple, double, and three RBIs. The Lady Eagles blasted five home runs on the day, including grand slams from Genevieve Forand and Lucy Parker. Dakota Larocque added three hits and drove in three runs in the win as Mount Abe improved to 15-3 on the season. Hazen Union’s Haley Michaud, Sarah Collier, Crown Royelle, and Gracie Royelle were on PA’s roster this season.
Mount Abe toppled tenth seeded Spaulding on Friday 17-1 and squared off against third seeded Lyndon Institute on Tuesday in the Division II semifinals.
Strong Leads Rice into the Quarterfinals
SOUTH BURLINGTON – Rice sophomore Finley Strong helped power the offense to lead the Lady Green Knight softball team to a first-round win over Milton last week in the first round of the Division II playoffs.
Strong went 2-4 at the plate and teammate Alayna Havreluk blasted three doubles and drove in a pair of runs to lead eighth seeded Rice to a 12-5 home win over the Lady Yellowjackets last Tuesday. Havreluk also earned the win in the circle, striking out eight in a complete game effort. Strong is the daughter of Hazen Union alum Jeff Strong, who had a stellar baseball career for the Wildcats and Lyndon State College. Rice fell to top-seeded Hartford 22-7 in a quarterfinal match-up that took four days to complete due to rain. The Lady Green Knights ended their season at 8-10.
