Summer Reading Program has Full Schedule

HARDWICK – The summer reading program at Jeudevine Memorial Library has a theme of “All Together Now,” with a full schedule of music, art, weekly story time, a drumming workshop for children aged 6 through 18, a visit with cellist Melissa Perley, author of “The Violin Family,” as well as reading challenges, art workshops, and more.

The summer reading kick-off is Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m., under the pavilion at Atkins Field, 100 Granite Street in Hardwick. The special guest is songstress Heidi Wilson. A song leader with Village Harmony for 10 years, she will lead a sing-a-long. Other activities for the kick-off are stories, a healthy snack and time for giant bubble making and games. Children can sign up for summer reading and receive reading logs, stickers and bookmarks and be entered into a drawing for prizes.

On July 6, beginning at 1 p.m., Linda Warnaar will hold drumming workshops for children at the Hardwick Town House. Warnaar is part of the Vermont band, Chickweed. There will be three classes: (ages 6, 7, 8), (ages 9, 10) and (11 to18). Class size is limited. Registration is required. Contact the library to register. [email protected]

On July 13, Melissa Perley will be at the Hardwick Town House at 11:30 a.m. She will read from her book, “The Violin Family,” and play a cello. A variety of string instruments will be set up to examine.

At 2 p.m. that same day, the Craftsbury Chamber Players will perform a special concert for children.

All of the events are free.
