HARDWICK – The annual Child Haven International Fund-raising Indian Dinner will take place on Saturday, Nov, 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at the Hazen Union High School Cafeteria.

This will be Child Haven’s first sit-down, in-person dinner since the COVID crisis and the take-out meals offered during those years. Tickets may be purchased at childhaven.ca or by calling Deborah Hartt at (802) 472-5284.

There will be a bazaar table and silent auction of local and South Asian treasures along with an on-line auction of a few select items. The on-line auction starts on October 27, at 10 a.m., and ends November 4, at 10 p.m., at 32auctions.com/ChildHaven2023Auction

Entertainment at the event will include a Bollywood dance performance led by local musician and dancer Emily Lanxner. The bazaar table items along with any dinner leftovers will be available in the Hazen Union Cafeteria on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To volunteer for the event or for more information contact Robin at (802) 533-2296. To donate auction items contact Katharine at (802) 472-3844.

Child Haven provides food, education and support to 1,300 formerly destitute children and young people at their homes in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The homes are run utilizing a Gandhian philosophy with respect for all religions, no regard for caste, equality of the sexes, non-violence and vegetarian food. Several local residents have visited the homes including Robin Cappuccino, whose parents founded Child Haven in 1985. Cappucino visits the homes twice a year and will show pictures and give a brief update on how the homes are doing.

One of the features of the dinner is to raise funds for the Rachel Davey Memorial Scholarship Fund which has so far paid for nurse’s training for two young women who are now working as nurses in Tamil Nadu, India. A third student is now enrolled in nurse’s training with the support of the fund.
