JOHNSON – The VTSU Johnson women’s soccer team’s victory over Canton last week set a program wins record, but they lost home field advantage in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference (NAC) playoffs with a loss to SUNY-Poly in their regular season finale over the weekend.
The Lady Badgers earned their tenth win of the season last Tuesday with a 6-0 home shellacking of Canton. It was the eighth shutout of the season for VTSU Johnson defense and the most regular season wins in the program’s 29-year history. Former Craftsbury Academy (CA) standout Ida Eames logged a shot on goal in her fourteenth match of the season for the Lady Badgers. The sophomore midfielder has three goals and an assist in seven starts this fall. VTSU Johnson had a chance to wrap up the NAC West Division on Saturday, but fell 3-1 at home to SUNY-Poly, giving the Lady Cats home field advantage throughout the upcoming NAC playoffs. VTSU Johnson finished the regular season at 10-3-2 and will kick off the postseason on Friday in Albany, N.Y.
Lowenthal Wraps up Collegiate Career on the Pitch
JOHNSON – Former Hazen Union All-Stater Silas Lowenthal played his final game of the season on Senior Day last week for the VTSU Johnson men’s soccer team.
The Badgers suffered a 6-2 home loss to SUNY-Poly over the weekend, wrapping up their season at 1-14. Lowenthal recorded an assist in the loss, finishing his collegiate career with two goals and an assist. The senior defenseman missed the first seven games of the season but returned from injury to start the final eight games for the Badgers, leading them to their first win of the season over VTSU Lyndon earlier this month.
Bears will Hit the Road for the Postseason
FAIRFAX – The Danville boys’ soccer team lost a pair of matches to Division III BFA-Fairfax and Paine Mountain last week, finishing the regular season at 2-12.
After a lopsided loss to the high-powered Bullets to start the week, Danville put up a spirited effort in a 3-2 overtime loss to Paine Mountain over the weekend on Senior Night. Caiden Hill gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead, before Parker Hebert found the equalizer midway through the first half. Cooper Hurley buried a feed from Noah Orton five minutes later for a one goal advantage. The Bears evened it at 2-2 on a corner kick, officially recorded as an own goal on Paine Mountain. Hurley’s second goal of the match was the game-winner in the second overtime as Paine Mountain earned their third win of the season. Paine Mountain will square off against third-seeded Randolph on Wednesday in the first round of the Division III playoffs. The Bears are the twelfth seed in Division IV and will travel to fifth-seeded Rivendell Academy for a first-round match-up on Wednesday.
