Hunt Named Interim Craftsbury Academy A.D.

Sarah Hunt

CRAFTSBURY – Craftsbury Academy (CA) principal Matt Foster and the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union announced over the weekend that the vacated athletic director position at CA has been filled by Sarah Hunt on an interim basis.

John Stein stepped away from the position at CA in November after only four months on the job and Hunt will immediately take over A.D. duties in the midst of the high school winter sports season.

Hunt, a Greensboro native and former Hazen Union middle school student, becomes the fifth Charger A.D. in five years. She graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, a minor in Spanish, and a teaching certification in Secondary Education.

She also has been a successful Division I varsity boys’ and girls’ tennis coach. She currently lives in Craftsbury and has a son attending CA at the middle school level.

Hunt’s challenge at CA will be elevating diminished participation levels in the traditional sports that small schools statewide have struggled with the past few years.

CA has developed elite cross-country, track and field, and skiing programs, but has struggled to consistently field teams in soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball.

Foster released the following statement on Hunt’s recent hire, “We are excited to bring Sarah Hunt to Craftsbury Academy as our new athletic director. She comes to us with exceptional high school experience as a coach and as a teacher. She is a Craftsbury parent, and she attended schools in our supervisory union. We are happy to have someone with her educational and athletic experience to take on the athletic director position,”

Vikings Stay Unbeaten

LYNDONVILLE – The Lyndon Institute (LI) boys’ hockey team doubled up Harwood last week to improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

Alex Giroux scored a hat trick and added an assist to power the Vikings to a 6-3 home win over Harwood last Wednesday. Adam Dusek added two goals in the win, his fourth in the last two games. Giroux leads the Vikings with six goals on the season. Hazen Union senior Andrew Menard and junior Max Fortman are on the LI roster, with Menard being a key defenseman for the third consecutive season.

The Vikings will be back on the ice Wednesday night as they travel to Spaulding and will finish up their week with a trip to Missisquoi Valley.

Chargers Still Waiting to Start Season

CRAFTSBURY – First year head coach Brandon Berry and his Craftsbury Academy (CA) boys’ basketball team had a pair of postponements last week, leaving them still in limbo to start their season.

The Chargers were scheduled to open the season against Christ Covenant and Trinity Baptist last week, but scheduling conflicts from both schools postponed both contests. A scheduling error also postponed their match-up with Sharon Academy on Monday, but Berry hopes to finally get his team on the basketball court on Friday night at Richford. The Chargers are scheduled to host Danville next Wednesday in their home opener.
