HARDWICK – Emily Willems, Skip Duncan, and Brendan Buckley represented the Hardwick Historical Society in the inaugural trivia game held during half-time at the first round of the Dave Morse Classic Tournament at Hazen Union on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
The roughly 75 people who participated in the quiz got the same question: “Which school in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont has won the most basketball state championships with eight”? At half-time, Willems and Duncan pulled answers from the historic ballot box the historical society provided for the purpose. David Jiron had the correct answer: Hazen Union.
Historical Society representatives Emily Willems, Gail O’Brien, and Diane Demers repeated the contest at the championship game on Friday night. They asked this question: “Only one other team in the state has won more boys basketball championships in any division than Hazen Union. Which school is it?”
They collected approximately 100 answers and pulled submissions from their ballot box until they got a winner. Dave Brown correctly answered Rice Memorial High School.
The Hardwick Historical Society will repeat this trivia competition at every varsity girls and boys basketball game for the season. Everyone will receive the same question for each quiz, and the first correct answer drawn will receive a handshake and a prize.
