Four New Staff Hires Announced


Hannah Rushing

CRAFTSBURY COMMON – Sterling College has added four new employees to its team in advancement, facilities and admissions. 

Hannah Rushing has been hired as director of advancement. She is a graduate of the Long Trail School in Dorset and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. In her previous experience working in advancement at the Lesley Ellis School in Boston, she worked on fundraising and community engagement. Hannah has successfully led multiple fundraising campaigns, tuition assistance auctions, and significantly increased annual giving. She is committed to resource conservation and community development.


Seth Hayden

Seth Hayden has been hired as director of buildings and grounds. He most recently worked as a consultant at Craftsbury Saplings. Additionally, he brings experience at Children’s Country Day School, a farm and nature-based school in Mendota Heights, Minn. He has experience with facilities management, project planning and managing renovations and expansion. In addition, he is a grant writer who will bring attention to budget planning and resource development.

Xiao Ma has been hired as admission counselor. Ma recently graduated from Bennington College, as an international student from China, with a degree in Visual Arts and Literature. Her work revolved around immigration, diaspora, cultural exile, and the meaning of home. While at Bennington, she worked on the admission team.

Nic Stevens has also been hired as an admission counselor, Stevens earned a degree in applied sustainability from Pacific University, Oregon. He brings to Sterling experience in farming and food systems and the use of community gardens to fight food insecurity on college campuses.
