CRAFTSBURY – Six rowers from the Craftsbury Green Racing Project (GRP) are taking their talents to Paris, representing Team USA in the Summer Olympic Games where the opening rowing competition is slated to begin Saturday, July 27.

With opening ceremonies scheduled to begin on Friday night, July 26 in Paris, France, Grace Joyce, Emily Delleman, Daisy Mazzio-Manson and Jacob Plihal will represent Craftsbury for Team USA Rowing, with Emily Froehlich and Lexander Hedge traveling with the team as alternates.

This year marks the first time Craftsbury GRP sends scullers to the Olympic games, where the United States lays claim to a record 89 rowing medals over its 124-year history.

Joyce and Delleman are set to compete in the quadruple sculls and Mazzio-Manson in the women’s four class.

Plihal will compete in the men’s single scull, becoming the first U.S. athlete in 12 years to do so.

Mazzio-Manso is from Wellesley, Mass., and was a standout at Yale before winning an NCAA Team Championship at the University of Texas. The 2019 All-American is a member of both Team USA’s U23 and senior national teams, finishing third in the 2024 World Rowing Cup II and a runner-up finish in the eight at the 2023 World Championships.

Plihal is a native of Washington and moved to Vermont four years ago. He was a three-time All-American and captain for his Northeastern University team and made Team USA by beating out 28 other rowers at a last chance regatta in Switzerland.

Delleman is an Iowa native and was a two-time All-American at Stanford. She solidified her spot on Team USA by winning the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta after placing in the top 10 in the 2022 World Championships.

Joyce hails from Illinois and didn’t take to the sport until high school, where she quickly excelled, earning freshman MVP honors for her University of Wisconsin team. The Pan American Games gold medal winner earned her spot on Team USA by winning the World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta earlier this year.

Craftsbury GRP’s head coach is Steve Whelpley and his support staff is rounded out by Megan Chacosky, Will Ruth, and Samantha Smith.

Davis Picks up First Win for Lake Monsters

BURLINGTON – Zach Davis, son of former Craftsbury Academy (CA) standout Jeff Davis, earned his first Futures League win last week for the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Davis picked up the win in relief on July 13 in a 3-1 victory over the Nashua Silver Knights, allowing two hits and fanning a batter in two innings of work. The 6’4” right-hander is 1-0 on the season with a 3.72 earned run average through five games. Davis is the reigning Vermont Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year after an outstanding senior season at Colchester and will attend Bryant University in the fall on a baseball scholarship.

Davis and the Lake Monsters sit at 26-19 on the season. They will be back in action at Centennial Field for a three-game series against the Norwich Sea Unicorns Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
