MORRISVILLE – Copley has appointed Patricia Launer, RN, CPHQ, CIC as the new infection preventionist. She comes to Copley at the end of a long healthcare career, serving in nursing and in improving the quality of healthcare for patients. Certified in Healthcare Quality and in Infection Control, Launer has served for the past six years as the director of quality and infection preventionist at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.
Born in Middlebury, raised in Rutland, educated at UVM (and later at Castleton State College), Launer began her career as an RN at Dartmouth Hitchcock and Fletcher Allen Hospitals. She then worked at the Vermont Program for Quality Healthcare, an independent, nonprofit organization whose focus is on quality analysis and improvement. From there she moved to Bi-State Primary Care, an organization covering Vermont and New Hampshire that provides training and technical assistance to Federally Qualified Health Centers to improve programmatic, clinical, operational, and financial performance.
When the position of infection preventionist opened at Copley, closer to home and at an organization near and dear to her family’s heart (her husband Alden Launer was Copley’s chaplain for over 20 years and now serves as a member of the board) she made the move.
And when she’s not at work? “I love gardening and canning,” she said. “Pickles and jams. I also love quilting, and I’ve acquired a pretty big stash of fabric over the years. No matter where we go, Google helps me find where all the fabric stores are. And Alden,” she added laughing, “is often the one to say, ‘we’re going right by — let’s stop!’.”
