HARDWICK – The Hardwick Trails Loan and Lesson program runs through February 15. Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m., weather and trails condition dependent, the log cabin behind Hazen Union School will be staffed with volunteers who fit skiers with the right size skis, poles and boots, and send them out to either take a beginner classic ski lesson, take a tour of the trails with a volunteer guide, or simply head out individually or with family or friends to ski on groomed trails. There are snowshoes on hand for a tour of the forest. Return to the cabin by 11 a.m., check equipment back in and have a cup of cocoa. Or extend a ski or snowshoe loan through the weekend to enjoy additional time along the trails. In case of extreme cold or poor snow conditions, a Saturday session may be canceled. For questions regarding weather or trail conditions, check Facebook’s “Hardwick Trails” before heading to the cabin.
