AREA TOWNS — Home-delivered meals prepared at the Greensboro Nursing Home are delivered by volunteers to over 40 clients each week in Greensboro, Hardwick, East Hardwick, Stannard, South Walden and sometimes Wheelock.
Each week, the Greensboro Nursing Home kitchen prepares about 240 home-delivered meals for the program, often called Meals on Wheels (MOW), which totalled over 12,000 meals in 2024.
Now, in early 2025, 43 MOW clients receive from two to seven meals each week. Meals are delivered by 23 volunteers on Monday, Wednesday or Friday each week on six different routes.
Each client receives one hot meal with each delivery. The remainder are frozen. Clients may also request half gallons of whole or two percent milk.
In addition to meals and milk, another purpose of home-delivered meals is checking on how each client is doing and offering social interaction for those who may be isolated.
MOW are provided through NEKCOA for people 60 years old and over, as well as to their caregivers.
The Vermont Center for Independent Living (VCIL) works with NEKCOA to provide MOW.
MOW programs are designed to provide meals on an emergency, short-term or long-term basis to those who are disabled or have a condition that prevents a person from preparing a main meal each day.
