Chargers Take Third at First Home Match

LOWELL – The Craftsbury Academy (CA) bowling team secured a third-place finish over the weekend as they hosted their first match of the season at Missisquoi Lanes.

The Chargers qualified third for the team competition on Saturday, falling to No. 2 South Burlington 284-210. Head coach Ashley Gravel only returned four young bowlers from a star-studded team from last season and Kosmos Gillet stepped into his new starting role with new career highs of 118 and 114. Andrew Royan bowled a personal record 112 on the afternoon.

Raz Mille and Owen Foster are the other returning competitors from last year’s squad that featured Matt Wilcox, Jason Brown and Jacob Marquis. All three bowlers qualified for the individual state tournament last March, finishing in the top 12 state rankings by the end of the year. Wilcox wrapped up his stellar high school career with a fourth-place finish at the Senior Classic last March. Gravel is essentially starting from scratch in her second year running the program but likes the enthusiasm and dedication of her young team so far this season.

“Our results weren’t out of this world in our first home match, but they were good scores for a young team that is getting used to high school competition. The weather has limited us to just two practices unfortunately, but the positivity and enthusiasm of this group has been great. They are excited, willing to learn, and that is all you can ask as a coach. We’ve added two female bowlers to the team this season in Arwen Alexander and Eva Small, which is just great to see. We have a team made up of mostly tenth graders who are still learning the game in live competition, so we’re going to have some growing pains. Having a young program this season is a positive for the future and I’m excited to watch their development in the coming weeks,” said Gravel.

The Chargers will be back in action this Saturday at the Valley Bowl in Randolph for a noon start.
