Chargers Improving with Third Place Finish
COLCHESTER – The Craftsbury Academy (CA) bowling team took South Burlington to the wire last week, before ultimately settling for a third-place finish at Sparetime Lanes.
South Burlington ousted the Chargers in Bakers by a single frame on Saturday in Colchester, but head coach Ashley Gravel and her program filled with mostly sophomores continue to make improvements every week.
“The match was great over the weekend with everyone bowling over their individual averages for the day. This team has great attitudes, are eager to learn, and are extremely coachable,” said Gravel.
Kosmos Glestos led the way with a season-high 137, followed by Cyrus Graham (129), Raz Mille (122), and junior Tucker Holcomb’s 120. Sophomores Arwen Alexander and Eva Small continue to inch closer to breaking the century mark.
“This group is having fun, but when you get close like we did this week you can see that they all want to compete and do better when they feel like they’ve failed. I continue to stress on working and building on our confidence. They all have some natural ability to bowl but struggle with keeping their head up sometimes. Overall, it was another step in the right direction, and we look forward to continuing getting better as a team throughout the season,” said Gravel.
The Chargers will host their third meet of the season this Saturday at Missisquoi Lanes in Ludlow.
Welcome Leads Lady Wolves to Sixth Straight Win
MORRISVILLE – First-year head coach and Hazen Union alum Rick Welcome and his upstart Peoples Academy (PA) girls varsity basketball team vaulted up the division III standings last week with victories over Stowe, Montpelier, and Lyndon Institute.
It was the sixth straight win for the Lady Wolves, who now sit at 8-2 on the season and #5 in the current divisional rankings. Welcome is rebuilding a program quickly at PA that won a single game last season and opted not to compete in the state tournament. He has four eighth graders on the roster this winter, led by the ultra-talented Daisy Berg.
Welcome and his club will be back in action this week as they host U-32 on Thursday.
