ST. JOHNSBURY – As part of the Vermont Humanities Snapshot Series: Alexander von Humboldt and American Democracy will be presented at the St. Johnsbury Anthenaeum on Wednesday, May 14, 6 p.m. Alexander von Humboldt was a Prussian polymath, geographer, naturalist, and explorer who visited the United States in 1804 to meet President Thomas Jefferson. Humboldt used his voice to urge the United States to live up to its democratic ideals. Eleanor Jones Harvey, senior curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, explores Humboldt’s influence on America’s cultural values. This event is free, ADA accessible, and open to the public.
