Hazardous Material Training

Share article

CABOT – The weekend of October 12 and 13, Cabot Firefighters and mutual aid partners from Marshfield Fire joined the Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team (VHMRT) at Cabot Creamery for training. The training focused on response to a hazardous materials (hazmat) response at the Cabot Creamery. It included a practical exercise where Cabot firefighters assumed incident command and simulated rescue of a downed employee. Cabot firefighters then supported decontamination and scene stabilization efforts to VHMRT. VHMRT brought its specialized tools, protective suits and drone units to the exercise, simulating a comprehensive incident response.

The department wrote, “It was an excellent opportunity to work with the incredible Cabot Creamery staff and VHMRT. The scenario is one we hope never occurs, but preparation like this ensures an effective response if and when necessary.”
