HARDWICK – On December 3, at 9:11 p.m., Greensboro Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid to Lower Cherry Street in Hardwick to assist with a fully involved structure fire. Multiple agencies responded to assist Hardwick Fire Department.

The fire spread quickly through the building, and responding departments worked to protect nearby houses. Crews returned to the station at approximately 11:30 p.m..

A fully involved structure fire destroyed a detached garage and everything in it at the home of Mike and Sally Brochu on Elm Street in Hardwick. The Hardwick Fire Department was toned out on December 3, at 9:09 a.m., and received mutual aid from Greensboro, Woodbury, Wolcott and Walden.

Firefighters continue to water down hot embers after debris from the detached garage was moved to the side at the home of Mike and Sally Brochu, December 3. The siding melting on the existing garage which was around 12 feet away and that garage is attached to their home which was not affected. The fire’s cause was undetermined.

Vanessa Fournier graduated from Hazen Union School in 1973 and went to work taking photos in Bennington, then returned to Hardwick to work for Vin Zecchinelli of Farland Studio for several years. She started her own photo business in 1979. She's been in photography for over 50 years, working for The Hardwick Gazette for 44 years. She retired in 2023 and is still taking pictures for The Gazette because she still loves what she does.
