DUI, flee and spree, burglary

HARDWICK – On January 18, at 2:48 p.m., officers from the Hardwick Police Department responded to Putnam Avenue for the report of a vehicle off the road. Investigation revealed that Michael W. Gallant of Hardwick had operated his pickup truck while under the influence of intoxicants. He was taken into custody without incident for DUI. He was issued a citation to appear in the Superior Court of Vermont, Criminal Division, Caledonia Unit to be arraigned on this charge.

On January 19, at 2:22 a.m., Hardwick Police and Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a domestic assault at 1795 Hopkins Hill Road in Hardwick. The victim was subsequently transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital by Hardwick Rescue Squad. The alleged offender, Michael Ewen of Hardwick, left the residence on foot. Officers tracked the Ewen to the Ackermann Farm on Brown Farm Road. They discovered Ackermann’s silver Dodge Ram 3500 truck had been stolen. At 4:47 a.m., officers located the truck crashed on Nichols Pond Road. The operator had fled the scene; however, evidence at the scene indicated Michael Ewen was the driver. At 10:30 a.m.,  Michael Ewen was taken into custody by Hardwick Police without incident and transported back to the Hardwick Police Department. Ewen was charged with Second Degree aggravated domestic assault, violation of conditions of release (x4), aggravated operation without consent of owner, and operating after suspension of license. Ewen was transported to Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury. He is scheduled for arraignment in Caledonia Superior Court; Criminal Division on January 20. 

On January 19, at approximately 1:31 p.m., ops Market called Hardwick Police Dept to report a theft of a bottle of liquor from the store. Investigation revealed that Casandra Rich had taken a bottle from the store. On January 20 Casandra Rich was located and charged with retail theft and cited to appear at the Caledonia County Court. 

On January 20, at 1:49 p.m., Hardwick Police were notified that Casandra Rich of Hardwick stole money from a family member. Rich had fled the residence after taking the money. Hardwick Police located Rich later that day and arrested Rich. Rich is scheduled to appear in Caledonia District Court on February 23, at 8:30 a.m., to answer the charge of Burglary.
