GREENSBORO – The Funnery is back in town, and two performances of the comedy, “Twelfth Night,” will be presented this weekend.

“Get Thee to the Funnery” is a two-week youth Shakespeare experience, founded by Peter Gould in 1998 in the Northeast Kingdom, and still directed by him every summer. This year he is joined as director by a cohort of young theater artists who have come up through the Funnery ranks.

Thirty-two campers are dividing up roles and scenes, in the usual mix of physical comedy, youthful energy, and loyal attention to the text. The camp takes place under the big tent at the Highland Center for the Arts in Greensboro.

Performances are Friday, Aug. 11, 5:30 p.m., at Highland Center. Saturday’s 2 p.m. matinee is part of Craftsbury’s annual Old Home Day celebration, with the Shakespeare performance in the formal garden at Sterling College.

“Come early,” Gould says, “and enjoy one of the best Home Day Parades in the state. Shop at the Farmers’ Market, too.”

The Shakespeare tradition at Craftsbury Common was started by Miss Jean Simpson in 1923, one hundred years ago. Performances are accessible and free, but donations are gratefully accepted. More information is available at gettheetothefunnery.com.
