BARRE – Conductor Lisa Jablow, the Vermont Philharmonic and Chorus will present two performances of Handel’s “Messiah” on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., at the Barre Opera House, and Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m., also at the Barre Opera House.

The Vermont Philharmonic performances will present the entire first part of “Messiah,” with arias and choral numbers.  The concert concludes with the “Hallelujah” chorus from Part II, and six numbers from Part III.

The “Messiah” performances will again use Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s orchestration of the familiar arias and choruses, adding flutes, clarinets, French horns, and trombones to Handel’s orchestra.  Audiences will still hear Handel’s beloved melodies. Mozart adds just a bit of color while retaining the essence of Handel’s masterpiece.

The outstanding soloists include Cristina Escobedo, soprano; Linda Radtke, alto; Adam Hall, tenor, and Mason Jarboe, baritone.  Mary Jane Austin is the assistant choral director.

Now in its 65th season, the Vermont Philharmonic has been making music since 1959. It is Vermont’s oldest community orchestra and is composed of professional and amateur musicians. Lou Kosma celebrates his 25th season as music director. Advanced tickets purchases are highly recommended; available online at vermontphilharmonic.com.
