GREENSBORO – Summer Music from Greensboro (SMfG) will present a series of four Tuesday evening concerts this summer at the Greensboro United Church of Christ. SMfG’s first concert will be on July 18, at 7:30 p,m., when SMfG will present the Manhattan Chamber Players’ (MCP) clarinet quintet from New York City, which will perform two of classical music’s most beloved and esteemed classical works, W.A. Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major and Johannes Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet in B minor.
SMfG ‘s will also present “The Moanin’ Frogs,” an accomplished and entertaining saxophone sextet, on July 25; a jazz concert featuring Fred Moyer and the Fred Moyer Jazz Trio on August 1; and the internationally-acclaimed Ariel String Quartet on August 8.
“This four-concert series should be exceptional,” SMfG’s chair Day Patterson remarked. “The MCP clarinet quintet from New York City is outstanding and the Mozart and Brahms works that the MCP will perform on July 18 are widely regarded as two of the finest works ever composed for the clarinet quintet.
“The Moanin’ Frogs are a superb sax sextet that performs a wide range of music and is very entertaining, so that July 25 concert should be one that people of all ages, young and old alike, will truly enjoy.
“For our August 1 concert, we’re delighted to present Fred Moyer, an exceptional pianist who will perform some solo classical and jazz works, and then with his jazz trio will perform note-for-note renditions of some of the greatest jazz works exactly as those were originally performed by the jazz legends that created those works.
“And for SMfG’s final summer concert on August 8, we’re honored to present the Ariel String Quartet, which is known world-wide as one of the finest string quartets performing today.”
SMfG’s treasurer Rick Lovett noted that SMfG has done its best to keep ticket prices affordable. “Despite inflation, SMfG’s ticket price will be the same that it was last summer, just $22, and children under 18 will be admitted free of charge.” Lovett suggested that anyone interested in attending an SMfG concert should go online to SMfG’s website at SummerMusicFromGreensboro.net and sign up there for SMfG’s newsletter, which will provide concert updates during the summer.
