Barbara L. Severance

RANDOLPH CENTER – Barbara L. Severance, 65, of Randolph Center, passed away on early Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 a.m., in the Garden Room of Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. Barbara was born May 25, 1958, in Hardwick, the daughter of James and Aral Smith Rogers.

Barbara attended Hardwick Elementary School and Hazen Union High school, graduating class of 1977. Later she attended cosmetology college in Burlington. Barbara met Steve Severance on a blind date in 1982. Steve proposed to her on their second date and they married in 1983, in Tunbridge, and have been together for 40 years.

Barbara worked as a caregiver. Later she farmed with Steve, then worked at Mayo Healthcare for 24 years. She cared for her mother, who later moved into Steve and Barbara’s home, so Barbara could take care of her 24 hours a day. Barbara loved lawn saleing and antiquing. She had a talent for decorating their home with primitives and antiques. Later, Steve and Barbara opened a successful store of thrift clothing, antiques, and furniture in Williamstown. She always saw the best in others and even in her final days, she retained that sense of caring for others. Steve cared for her lovingly around the clock during her final months.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Steve, of 40 years, her sister, Mary Rogers-Perry and husband, David, of Santa Fe, N.M., sisters- and brothers-in-law, nephew and nieces, and lifetime friend, Audrey Billings, and Barbara’s shopping buddy, John.

A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family and will be notified publicly. Correspondence in her memory may be made to Steve Severance, 3580 Vt. Rte. 14S Randolph Center, VT 05061. The Day Funeral Home in Randolph is assisting the family with arrangements.
