GREENSBORO – Lorraine L. Daniels, 86, of Greensboro, passed away peacefully on November 8, at Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center. Her three children were able to be with her for several days up to her passing, which was a precious time for her family.
Lorraine was born on December 31, 1936, in Barton, the daughter of Leon and Edith (Dewing) LaMonda and was raised in East Hardwick. Lorraine and Elwyn (Bopsy) Daniels Jr. were married on Dec. 31, 1955, and were married for 61 years when Elwyn passed in 2017.
After graduating from Hardwick Academy, she traveled to Boston for further education in the field of lab technician and returned to central Vermont to work in this field for several years.
In 1970, Lorraine graduated as valedictorian from Vermont College with a degree in education. She taught biology at Twinfield High School, U-32 High School and Montpelier High School. Lorraine also went on to further her work career gaining a real estate license and worked for Heney Realtors in Montpelier. She finished her working career working for the family business, Sam Daniels Furnace Co. in Montpelier.
Lorraine and her husband lived in a number of towns in Vermont including Hardwick, Burlington, and Montpelier. They enjoyed boating on Lake Champlain on their cabin cruiser during the summers in pre-retirement. In 1990 they built a retirement home on Lake Eligo in Greensboro. They were able to spend over 20 winters in the Las Vegas and Mesquite area of Nevada where she enjoyed playing a number of poker games with her husband and friends and at casinos. During retirement they traveled to 48 states including Alaska and Hawaii.
Lorraine was a loving and compassionate woman and an amazing mother and grandmother. She loved family get-togethers for holidays and birthdays. She always made sure the birthday person had their special meal and birthday cake. She was grateful to go on excursions with her children and grandchildren. She attended many of their sporting events as well. She was always there when you needed her by your side.
Her hobbies included reading, quilting, sudoku, and growing red geraniums on her front porch, which encouraged hummingbirds to visit. She so enjoyed sitting on the porch at Lake Eligo sipping her tea. One of her favorite TV shows was “Jeopardy,” in which she could always answer a number of questions. She would go to garage sales in search for collectible Fiesta Ware.
She is survived by her three loving children, Jayne and husband Bill Collins of Boise, Idaho, with two grandsons, Kevin and Michael; Jimmy and Donna Daniels with granddaughter Abigail of Berlin, and Janice and John Guilmette of Punta Gorda, Fla., and her youngest sibling, Janice LaMonda Mower of Gila, N.M.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elwyn Daniels Jr; brother, Warren LaMonda and sister, Ardys LaMonda Luther.
Her family would like to sincerely thank the whole staff at Menig Nursing Home for the loving, kind and compassionate care they provided Lorraine and her children, especially in her final days.
Lorraine’s funeral and interment will be celebrated in early summer of 2024 in Hardwick.
