HARDWICK — AWARE has made progress in its mission to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence in its 40th year of serving the communities of Cabot, Craftsbury, Greensboro, Hardwick, Stannard, Walden and Woodbury, says the organization’s staff. “This year, we have seen remarkable achievements while facing the challenges inherent in the work we do. Together, we have created a safer, more supportive environment for those who need it most.”

In 2024, AWARE supported 194 survivors of domestic and sexual violence with vital services that include advocacy, legal assistance, emotional support and education.

The AWARE 24/7 hotline ensured those in crisis could access help at any time, receiving over 1481 hotline calls and requests for assistance throughout the year.

Preventing violence before it starts is one of AWARE’s core priorities. Community outreach and education programs empower community members to recognize the signs of abuse, understand healthy relationships and know how to access available resources.

In 2024, AWARE collaborated with local schools, including Sterling College, Hazen Union School and Craftsbury Academy to provide education and prevention training.

Advocacy and policy change remains at the heart of AWARE’s work. In 2024 it continued collaborating within local communities and with peer agencies to identify gaps in services and to reach those in need. A new Social Change Advocate joined the organization and has been building a framework to uphold the mission of AWARE’s diversity statement through an updated website and materials.

This year’s achievements would not have been possible without the support of AWARE’s donors and volunteers. Thanks to their contributions, vital services have been sustained, allowing AWARE to continue offering outreach efforts, and a safe space for survivors to heal.

Looking ahead to 2025, AWARE remains committed to providing critical services, advocating for policy change and raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence. The AWARE staff and board are confident the organization’s efforts will continue to make great strides in the communities it serves, ensuring every individual is safe, respected and empowered.

AWARE thanks the community for standing with it as it works to end domestic and sexual violence, one survivor at a time.
