MONTPELIER – House Speaker Jill Krowinski issued the following statement following the tri-partisan vote of 127-9 to pass H.545, an act relating to issuing immunization recommendations:
“Today’s vote on H.545 is another example of the Vermont House of Representatives taking action to protect the health and safety of Vermonters in the face of the federal government refusing to do so,” said House Speaker Jill Krowinski. “The recent decision by the Centers Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reduce the recommended vaccines isn’t based on scientific research or consensus from the medical field. This bill simply allows Vermont health care providers to continue their work caring for Vermonters and making health decisions based on their patients’ needs – it does not mandate immunizations for individuals or families.
“I appreciate the diligent work of the House Human Services Committee for their work to get this critical piece of health legislation done before unnecessary and avoidable harm was caused. The Vermont House of Representatives will continue to stand up for Vermonters and do everything we can to ensure the health and safety for all who call Vermont home.”
H.545 is supported by the Vermont Commissioner of Health, the Vermont Medical Society, The Vermont Medical Society, American Academy of Pediatrics Vermont Chapter, and the Vermont Academy of Family Physicians.
