HARDWICK – Film aficionado Rick Winston will host a talk at 7 p.m., February 13, at the Jeudevine Library in the Parker Ladd Community Room. Winston will discuss the components of the murder mystery film genre and specific films that use the genre to make larger points about social issues, such as race, official corruption, sexuality or class divides.
From 1972 to 1980, Winston ran the Lightning Ridge Film Society in Montpelier. He was co-owner and co-manager of the Savoy Theater from its founding in 1981 until 2009 and was programming director of the Green Mountain Film Festival from 1999 to 2012. Using the films discussed in Winston’s talk, the Friends of the Jeudevine Library will host a Friday night murder mystery film series through the remainder of the winter. The dates will be Feb 27, March 13, March 27 and April 10, also in the Parker Ladd Community Room. All events are free and include popcorn.
