Emers’ “Patchwork by the Dozen”

Charlie Emers says he challenges himself to try new things with his paintings and he hasn’t done a lot of landscapes. Like most of his work, he doesn’t know where it’s going when he starts and often covers parts of his work, never to be seen again. In “Grackle Universe,” “I painted the landscape first; I don’t do many of them and wanted to practice, but then I had to put some birds in.”

“Grackle” (above right), acrylic on canvas, and “Southwestern Grackle,” acrylic on block, are among the smallest and most simple of the works presented in Charlie Emers’ show, “Patchwork by the Dozen: The Secret Life of a Baker,” at Whitewater Gallery, 5 River St. in East Hardwick through July 12.
