On Sunday, Sept. 4, Department for Children and Families and the Hardwick Police Department received information about suspected physical abuse to an 8-month-old infant. The investigation determined the infant did not sustain any long-term injuries. On Sept. 15, Hardwick Police Department arrested Jakob Lashomb for three counts of First Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault. Lashomb was processed and released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on October 17.
On September 19 the Hardwick Police Department received multiple phone calls in reference to a telephone scam. The male caller identifies himself as a Hardwick Police officer and tells his potential victims that they have missed jury duty. The male says they need to pay their fine or he will come after them.
This is a scam and not any member of the Hardwick Police Department. We are currently investigating these calls.
On September 15 Erin Gibbs, of Hardwick, reported she loaned her vehicle, a 2021 blue Toyota Corolla, to Melissa Baldwin, of Hardwick two days prior and Baldwin had not returned it. Due to the circumstances, the vehicle was not listed stolen until the morning of Sept. 17.
On Sept. 17 at approximately 1700 hours, Officer Barnard was on bike patrol when he observed a male trying to pull someone out of a parked car on Wolcott Street. When he got closer, he noticed this vehicle was the car reported stolen by Gibbs. Officer Barnard identified the operator of the vehicle as Baldwin and the male as Angel Carrasquillo, of Bloomfield, Conn. Baldwin reported that Carrasquillo was attempting to steal the vehicle from her, which she stole from Gibbs. Carrasquillo took off running from the scene. While Officer Barnard attempted to locate Carrasquillo, he witnessed him get into a 2004 maroon Toyota pickup truck with a Vermont registration 284A467 parked on Lower Cherry St. Carrasquillo took off in the truck at a high rate of speed out of the driveway, up to Lower Cherry Street, and turned right onto South Main Street. The owner of the truck, Lynn Pasette, of Hardwick, advised she left her truck door open with the keys inside. She did not know the male who stole her truck.
