On August 10, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Hardwick Police stopped a green Volvo sedan on South Main St. in Hardwick for a motor vehicle violation. The operator was identified as Richard Daigle, of Hardwick. A license check showed that Daigle’s license was criminally suspended in the State of Vermont. Daigle was subsequently arrested and transported to the Hardwick Police Department for processing. He was released on a citation to appear in Caledonia Superior Court, Criminal Division on September 18.

On August 18, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Hardwick Police attempted to stop a red Toyota Prius for a motor vehicle violation on Vt. Rte. 14 in the town of Hardwick. The operator of the red Prius refused to stop, and turned right onto Marshall Street. Hardwick Police followed behind the vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated; however, the operator continued to accelerate onto Mackville Road. The operator of the Prius was operating at excessive speed and in a careless and negligent manner. Based on this, Hardwick Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.

A subsequent investigation revealed the operator of the Prius was Brent Rathburn, of Hardwick. On August 21, Rathburn was issued a criminal citation to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Caledonia Criminal Division, on September 18, at 8:30 a.m., for Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer and Negligent Operation.

On August 28, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Kyle Dalpe, of Barton, reported a theft from his low boy trailer, which was parked at the pull-off on Rte. 15 near the Rte. 16 intersection in the town of Hardwick. Dalpe advised he parked his trailer there on Friday, August 25, at 3 p.m. When he returned on Monday, Aug. 28, at 6 a.m., he noticed all of his chains and chain binders were missing. Four chain binders and nine chains were taken with an estimated value of $1,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hardwick Police Department.
