Hardwick Police Report

On Wednesday, September 6, at approximately 3:26 a.m., Hardwick Rescue Squad, Hardwick Fire Department and Hardwick Police Department responded to a fatal single vehicle/pedestrian crash on Rte. 16 near Molleur Drive, in the town of East Hardwick. The preliminary investigation shows Benjamin Mallery, of Sheffield, was traveling south on Rte. 16 in his 2007 blue Chevy Malibu. The weather at the time was foggy. The right front bumper of Mallery’s vehicle stuck the pedestrian who was in the southbound lane of the roadway. The pedestrian was identified as an 86-year-old male from Hardwick. His identity is being withheld until his family has been notified. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. The crash is being investigated by the Hardwick Police Department and the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. Mallery was uninjured. At the time, there is no evidence to suggest speed, alcohol/drugs were factors in this crash.

On September 9, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from Hardwick Police Department responded to 2094 Vt. Rte. 15 in Hardwick for the report of a burglary to the Moosehorn Cafe. A person or persons unknown, sometime during the preceding seven days had broken windows, damaged real property, and stolen over $200 worth of property from inside the building.
